I have an interest in the same area. The University of Washington has a scientific illustration program. Many of its courses are focused on plants and animals, anatomy, movement, and the different drawing styles.
I don’t like the green one or the dramatic lighting of the middle one – I can believe a fleshy world of the top… the deep focus of the green one makes these things look gigantic! Since this is an internal battle I wonder about much softer light.
